Voice Expression

有些基督教徒會在做完禮拜後大叫以感謝主的賜福(the blessings of the Lord).。

 Voice Expression

During the practice of Natural Zen, practitioners in a completely relaxed state often engage in uninhibited screaming, shouting, or wailing. Some people mimic dog barks, pig grunts, some belt out songs, others mutter, murmur, curse, chant, or even try to mimic the complexity of the six healing sounds in qigong. According to observations by Huang Laoshi, this vocal release is an effective method for stress relief and easing mental distress. For individuals experiencing mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia, after these vocal expressions, symptoms of emotional instability tend to gradually improve. Scientific research shows that suppressing certain emotional issues internally can often result in side effects, potentially leading to illness if not expressed. However, typical screaming, muttering, or rambling, which are often related to emotions, are often interpreted negatively, leading to more repression of emotions. But when you're angry, extremely upset, or dealing with something scary, this kind of emotional release is crucial.

Notably, singing has numerous benefits, as highlighted in a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine, which ranks singing as the top method for longevity. Singing in Natural Zen, however, is not about sounding pleasant; it often involves generating sound vibrations that resonate with internal organs based on individual needs and even creates vibrations in the cranial cavity, achieving what Huang Laoshi refers to as "cranial resonance." Thus, regardless of the type of sound produced during the practice, Huang Laoshi suggests that practitioners shouldn't fear this. Instead, they should allow their suppressed emotions to be completely released.

Huang Laoshi observed that people experiencing stress syndrome often have associated conditions such as high blood pressure, high brain pressure, and high eye pressure, resulting in seeing double images, akin to a layer of white appearing in their eyes. He narrates the case of a senior sister who initially came seeking help from a very tense state due to her husband's sudden death, leading to a functional disorder. While treatment from major hospitals was ineffective, it was through practice that improvement was seen. In her practice, she primarily produced high-pitched sounds, focusing on cranial resonance. It is known that the human body has five major resonating chambers: the mouth, throat, nose, chest, and the cranial cavity. According to Huang Laoshi's observation, cranial resonance is an excellent method to lower brain pressure. Furthermore, abdominal resonance has a significant and noticeable massage effect on the intestines.

Persistent stress often negatively affects a person's immune system, especially the body's primary defense system, the natural killer cells responsible for fighting viruses. Hence, stress release is an essential aspect of Natural Zen training. During stress release, practitioners often exhibit behaviors not usually observed, such as singing, shouting, crying, or laughing out loud. These reactions occur due to the release of pressure accumulated during daily work stress, leading to a connection with the Creator and an opportunity for stress relief behaviors. This reaction is likened to the "kettle steam" theory. Sound is often a powerful release channel and can be the most intuitive appeal for emotional expression.

In Natural Zen, practitioners often release inner pressure by loudly screaming, laughing, or crying during the practice process. In Yufu City, Oita Prefecture, Japan, events are held annually in the forest to allow people to scream and release pent-up stress. Japanese even created a "shouting vase" that people use to shout into, transforming loud and intense sounds into whispered words that exit from another opening to relax the mind and body.

Training in Natural Zen is an excellent way to release stress and ease mental distress. Hence, practitioners need not fear the occurrence of laughing, crying, shouting, or wailing in a completely relaxed state. Instead, they should allow their suppressed emotions to be completely vented.
