Analysis of the Effects of Natural Zen
Forest Bathing
Forest bathing is often emphasized for the
phytoncides found in trees. These aromatic compounds, self-protective
secretions found in the roots, stems, and leaves of plants, indeed have certain
benefits for the human body. However, various trees emit different phytoncides,
and not all these phytoncides are necessary for everyone. Natural Zen forest
bathing emphasizes the interaction between the human body in a completely
relaxed state and these plants. Each practitioner, in a completely relaxed
state, will find the tree species they individually need. In addition to
absorbing the required energy, practitioners communicate with the trees,
flowers, and grasses, even embracing them. This exercise has been verified
through the first-hand experience of hundreds of senior practitioners,
demonstrating inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system and relief for the
parasympathetic nervous system and intestinal peristalsis. Consequently, it
leads to a deeper cellular repair compared to what regular forest bathers achieve,
producing explosive results.
In terms of human health, based on over 20
years of observation of numerous long-term students, Master Huang found that,
apart from the powerful effects of the released phytoncides from upper-layer
dominant species such as Taiwania, Taiwan hemlocks, and Taiwan red cypresses on
deep body repair, the community formed by intermediate and lower-layer species
like reishi, golden lotus, shallon bars, holly, and epiphytic plants had a
greater impact on the human body.
After completely relaxing and de-stressing
in practice, students reported the following results. However, these reports
are classified based on student statements and are not an analysis of
therapeutic effects. The improvement in each student's situation may vary
according to the duration of forest time and individual exercise time. Although
among the students were teachers, doctors, nurses, university professors,
medical researchers, research institute students, and members of the Wilderness
Society, along with supporting data from medical institutions, other parameters
were not included. The actual therapeutic effects still await further
scientific verification. This information is provided solely for the reference
of forest medicine experts, welcoming biologists and medical experts to join
the research field.
Reduction in headaches.
Lowered blood pressure.
Improved memory.
Reduction in anxiety and depression.
Improvement in arrhythmia.
Alleviation of skin conditions.
Effective improvement in arthritis and
asthma.
Improvement in Tourette syndrome.
Improved intestinal system with increased
appetite.
Enhanced endocrine system.
Improved sleep quality; several individuals
quit taking sleeping pills.
Improved concentration, mental state.
Slowing down of amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis (ALS), even reversal.
Reduction in tumor size and recovery from
cancer.
The insights and results that Natural Zen
practitioners have gathered from forest bathing are consistent with those of
major research institutions worldwide. However, many students' statements
regarding health improvements far exceed what has been published or recorded in
domestic and foreign literature, making it difficult to believe the health
improvement situation unless it is personally witnessed. For example, one
student who hadn't walked for eight years regained the ability to walk after
participating in forest exercises multiple times (see Appendix 1). Another
student suffering from Miller Fisher syndrome regained a sense of body balance
and facial nerve function (see Appendix 2). Instances of health improvement or
restored health are quite common among Natural Zen students.
In order to comprehend the change in body
energy during forest bathing, Natural Zen students, under the guidance of
Master Huang Xianghui in 2016, explored the topic "The Correlation and
Improvement of Forest Relaxation Exercises and Body Energy and Organ
Responses" at the Cypress Mountain 130th Road's "Cypress School"
using the Swiss IFBIO Health Energy Analysis Instrument (IFBIO Swiss GmbH). The
study involved walking in the forest, stretching, and exercises before and
after forest activities, with 39 students, including 6 teachers, 2 nurses, 8
business hosts, 8 public utility unit employees, and 12 other professionals.
The results demonstrated that Natural Zen forest healing significantly affects
the improvement of internal body energy. (Refer to Appendix 3 for more
details).
